This is our hut at the Tirimbina Lodge

There were no closets ..... but how often do you get a chuckle

out of where you hang your clothes ?

These are  White  Tent  Bats.   Cute little things aren't they ?  They are so tiny that they gather together on the underside of leaves, for their naps.   No cave-hanging for these guys.

This 860 ft.  swinging foot bridge  is the longest in the country.

And this Keel-billed  Toucan  helped himself to Roy's scrambled eggs when Roy left the table to refill his coffee.

Rain was the least of the extent of our  "wetness"  when we went white-water rafting.

Need you ask ?     Yes .... this was the road to our cabins.

And this was our  "open-air" dining hall.

The camp had lots of horses .... and one self-appointed  "herd dog"

Then there was  "Petunia" ... a camp cat , that  bestowed her divine self  on several of the cabin porches.

Oh.... come on now !!!   How could anyone resist that face  ??!!

One morning, the local school children treated us to a darling program.  Then the children chose their individual  "adoptees" ....

and gave us guided tours of the school .... which included playing games with us.   GREAT  FUN  !!!

Then our main group spilt up into smaller groups of 4 .... and the various children took us to their homes for lunch.

One day we visited a sugar cane plantation .... and Roy got to try his hand at the sugar cane press.

And we got to try one of the by-products  .....

 sugar cane  "hooch".      Potent stuff.

One morning , the volcano was spitting lava "bombs"

which were making big  "puffs" as they bounced down the slope.

You may be able to pick out a few of these.

Late that afternoon ...... it looked like this.

And that night.... during dinner ..... we got to witness this fantastic  show.

As you can see.... it's a beautiful area.   And one afternoon .... in the rain .... we enjoyed the delights of one of the thermal springs.

  Cano Negro

With all the rain .... we were a bit concerned when we saw this boat.  ( we thought it might be the one we were to be given ).

Luckily .... we got a very nice little one .... with a roof.   Whew !!!

Scads of these iguanas were laying on the branches of the trees .    Fascinating in their own way .... but let's be honest here   ........

this is a face only a mother could love.    By the way ... these guys are pretty big !!

Here's the Nicaraguan  border.

Saw these guys close to the border.

Hmmmm..... are they coming ... or  going  ?

Boat-billed Heron

Cormorant

Great White Egret

Anhinga   ( snake bird )

Yep .... rainy season.  Our boat was traveling without hindrance

thru what is normally the forest floor and / or pasture.
