After a nice little tour of the area, we boated over to tiny deserted Pelican Island for lunch & champagne in a very elegant tent.

Our entertainment on the way to the island, was watching the antics of our extensive Pelican escort ... as they tried to hitch a ride on our  little boat.

Then , leaving our bigger plane behind ... we changed to the 11 smaller Cessna 220s which would take us to our new camp in the Sossuslsvei  Desert

Welllll ...... the day started out well, don't you think ?

About a half hour from camp .... the jeep broke down.

Yep ..... stuck out here in the middle of nowhere at 5:30 AM.

Not a McDonald's in sight.

The only company we had while the driver fixed the jeep... was this little guy,  who watched our activities with concentrated fascination

Finally reached our goal... and had a picnic lunch in this grove of trees.

(  the only place with any shade ....since we left camp HOURS  before )

" BIG  DADDY "

Now see ?? !!    THIS is what people end up doing

when they can't watch TV or play on their computers

One day ... about 6 PM .. we drove up to the top of the bluff overlooking this site .... and had  "Sundowners"  as we watched the sun set over the desert.

TRULY  MAGICAL  !!!

Roy has GOT to get me some more dogs !!!

Since I haven't had my normal  "fur therapy"  fix for almost 2 years,

I'm starting to "bond" with some really odd critters lately.

This goofy Ostrich decided to make a front-end run at our jeep ... and only veered off at the last minute.

We made our way to our last stop ... Cape Town .... for a bit of R & R  ,and our farewell dinner, before catching our long flight home

Rock  Hyrax ..... among my favorites .

Here's a bit of trivia for those of you who have not been on safari yet. The closest relative to these little darlings ... is the elephant.

No kidding !!!
