While we're pretty accepting & non-judgmental about the practices of other cultures ... we couldn't quite make ourselves watch the cock fights. |
Now THAT'S a set of horns !! |
This type of buffalo is highly prized. The hotel had one as a mascot & it cost them the equivalent of $10,000. |
This is part of the stock-yard. |
It's okay .... they're just tranquilized ( not dead ) |

You can get just about anything you could need here ..... from clothing |
...... to dinner. |

Wellll ... my climb into the Rice Barn was going just fine ..... until the pole started to rotate. |
THIS is a Tongkonan. |
And of course ... you recognize that this represents the white buffalo ( pictured in the market ) |
Here is one of the older complexes. The oldest Tongkonan here is 700 years old. |
Must belong to one very important guy. ( in most cases ... only the center pole contains the horns ) |
Here ... you can see how the tree has grown .... sealing the grave cavity. |
Banyan Trees are usually used as "burial trees" |

This is the Durian. ( that god-awful smelly fruit I mentioned earlier ). |

Cuttle Fish - saw 2 of them mating. |
The lake contained 3 different "non-stinging" species of Jelly Fish.
They move in schools, across the lake at different depths .... depending on the time of day or night. |

Banded Sea Krait ( sea snake ) ..... deadly venomous ... ( but thankfully) non-aggressive. |
That's the "Royal Coach" .. on the right ( pulled not by horses .... but by men ). |
While we were taking photos ... the King drove out of the gates on his way to the Mosque ..... and gave us the "Royal Wave". He was driving the car himself. We understand that except for state occasions ... he mostly does his own driving. |
